TNY264GN - Power Integrations Function Overview

The TNY264GN is a TinySwitch-II, EcoSmart, enhanced energy efficient low power off line switcher in 8 pin SMD package. This device integrates 700V power MOSFET, oscillator, high voltage switched current source, current limit and thermal shutdown circuitry onto a monolithic device. The start up and operating power are derived directly from voltage on DRAIN pin by eliminating need for bias winding and associated circuitry. In addition, the TinySwitch-II device incorporates auto restart, line undervoltage sense and frequency jittering. An innovative design minimizes audio frequency components in simple ON/OFF control scheme to practically eliminate audible noise with standard taped/varnished transformer construction. The fully integrated auto restart circuit safely limits output power during fault conditions such as output short circuit or open loop. The TNY264GN meets CEC, Energy Star and EU requirements.
Output power of 9W at 230VAC and 6W at 85VAC to 265VAC in open frame design
Output power of 5.5W at 230VAC and 4W at 85VAC to 265VAC in non ventilated enclosed adapter
Maximum duty cycle of 65%
Built-in circuitry practically eliminates audible noise with ordinary dip varnished transformer
132KHz operation reduces transformer size, uses EF12.6 or EE13 cores for low cost and small size
Very tight tolerances and negligible temperature variation eases design and low cost
Cost effective replacement for bulky regulated liners
Simple design practically eliminates rework in manufacturing
Built-in current limit and thermal protection improves safety
Operating junction temperature from -40°C to 150°C
